Four Strokes of the Gong

Lord Abbot from Thailand visits MRA conference centre at Mackinac Island, USA.,and the world assembly in Caux.

Filmed report on the visit of one of the highest Buddhist Abbots from Thailand to the assembly of MRA on Mackinac Island, USA. Delegates from north Africa (Algeria), Canada, India and other countries meet with him. Delegates from 66 countries gather on June 4th, 1958 to celebrate Frank Buchman's 80th birthday and the 20th anniversary of the launching of the world force of Moral Re-Armament. Chief Walking Buffalo (who made Frank Buchman a blood brother 25 years before) speaks in front of the Assembly. Japanese industrialists take the platform to thank Frank Buchman. General Ho from China speaks. Delegates from Germany bring a message from Konrad Adenauer. Miners from the Ruhr come to Frank Buchman. Leaders from Africa (Ghana) speak. The choir of Bethune Cookman College sing.
The Lord Abbot takes the platform and offers a golden medal with Buddha to Dr. Buchman. He performs a ceremony with a gong and hits it 4 times, symbolizing the 4 moral standards established by MRA.
Before leaving the Lord Abbot states that the 4 standards are universal truth, and completely in accordance with Buddhism.
He then travels to American cities: New York, where the UN have their headquarters, then to Pennsylvania. He visits Frank Buchman's mother's grave. Travels to Washington DC where he is welcomed by people from the congress, and Mr. Archie McKenzie, British diplomat who has served in Thailand. He visits the White House and other historic monuments.
The Lord Abbot then travels to London where he is received by Dr. Buchman's representatives. Visits the Thai Embassy where he performs a Buddhist ceremony for the ordination of Buddhist priests from Germany.
He travels to Germany where he meets Konrad Adenauer, and then to Caux where a message from Konrad Adenauer is read on the platform.
Vice President of the Danish parliament speaks on the platform.
Secretary General of the Socialist Party of the French Sudan speaks, with the secretary General of the French textile workers (most likely Maurice Mercier).
John "McGovern" (?), socialist member of the British parliament, trade union leaders from Nigeria. The Lord Abbot speaks and says that the 4 absolute moral standards of MRA must go the the whole world, "including Russia and China". The Lord Abbott visits places in Switzerland. He shares a ride in a cable carriage with the Thai Ambassador to Switzerland.
He then travels to Rome, Italy, to the Vatican.
He travels to India. Visits historic sites of historic interest.
He finally comes back home in Thailand, first to his monastery and then to his hometown in the north of the country.
In the sequence in Caux, you can hear the international chorus singing "Yodel Fantasy" in the background.
