Elisabeth Smith

Full-time MRA volunteer and member of the board of IofC, Norway

'I was born in Oslo in 1949. In 1968 I went to Caux, IofC's conference centre in Switzerland to take a cooking course and otherwise take part in the conference.  I did not come back to Norway for three years. A new adventure started in my life, with some radical change, a new and personal faith, reconciliation with my dad, and an idea worth living for. I joined the review 'Anything to Declare' and we travelled around Europe a bit before heading off to India and many places in Australasia.

After returning to Oslo, I worked full-time with IofC for the next nine years.  In 1979 I got married to Alec D Smith and moved to his country of Zimbabwe, another adventure as the country was still in a civil war. With a strong faith and the hope that the country was on the right course, we put down roots and our three children were born.  However, the situation turned downwards, and around 2000 after a short spell working for Norad in Oslo, we moved to Tel Aviv, for my first job for MFA (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) Norway. At the end of my position there Alec tragically, and suddenly passed away.

I continued working for MFA till my retirement at the end of 2017 with many exciting assignments around the world, what a privilege that was.  I am now living in Norway and continue my involvement in IofC, being on the board of IofC, Norway.  My main hobby is quilting, applique, and patchwork.'
