Verena Gautschi

Born at the start of World War 2 she grew up in the safety of neutral Switzerland. After graduating from high school, she trained as a publisher and bookseller. After some years in a Lucerne bookshop, she moved to the Caux conference Center and spent the following 38 years as a voluntary worker with Caux Books: translating, correcting, editing, designing - but also as a piano accompanist for voices and instruments, and touring for two years round Europe with the musical review Anything To Declare?, created in Caux. She also regularly worked on the Caux 'housekeeping team', looking after one of the lovely guest floors in Mountain House during conference times. Her greatest joy as a single person was no doubt the chance of sharing the lives of a number of young families in various countries. 'A rich time!'
